Delbert Eugene Carolus, 78

Delbert Eugene Carolus, 78, of Parkersburg, passed away on March 2, 2024, in Waterloo.

Delbert was born on December 16, 1945, to his loving parents, Henry and Julane (Osheim) Carolus. He graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1963 and went on to attend junior college.

Delbert then served in the United States Army, bravely surviving the Vietnam War. For his extraordinary service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic Vietnam Campaign Metal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman (M-16 & M-60) First Class Gunner, and the Good Conduct Medal. Delbert was honorably discharged and proudly carried the values of a dedicated soldier throughout his life.

Following his military service, Delbert worked for Schwan's Ice Cream for 30 years. However, his passion for entrepreneurship led him to venture into various businesses of his own.

Outside of work, Delbert found immense joy in spending time with his beloved wife of 25 years, Dorothy, their children, and grandchildren. He had a green thumb and loved gardening, enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, and took great care of his cherished acreage and animals.

Delbert is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Carolus; his loving children, Darin (Nancy) Carolus of Reno NV, Colin (Jenny) Carolus of Vinton, Grant (Holly) Carolus of Waterloo; his sister, Diane (Ron) Dougherty of Ankeny; and his adored grandchildren, Emily Carolus, Rachel Carolus, Austin (Cheyenne)Carolus, Ryan Carolus, Levi Carolus, Nolan Carolus, and Justin Damm and Blake Damm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and two stepdaughters.

No services are planned at this time.
