Elgin Leonard Lester (Butch, Lenny), 78

Elgin Leonard Lester (Butch, Lenny), 78, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on June 30, 2023. After a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service located at 520 Wilson Avenue, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the funeral home. Inurnment to follow in Linwood Cemetery with full military honors.

Elgin was born December 24, 1944, in Hampton, Iowa to the late Elgin Leland and June Dora Lester. After high school Elgin joined the United States Army. Then later joined the Iowa National Guard of Waterloo, where he became a helicopter pilot and traveled the nation with the Governor’s X Pistol team. He was a Carpenter/Contractor for many years before he started his dream job as a helicopter pilot for St. Luke’s Hospital. He loved life, adventure, family, friends, skydiving, jet skiing, and motorcycle riding. He found spiritual peace at the Apostolic Church of Anamosa.

Elgin is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Vicki of Anamosa; sons, Casey Lester of Aplington, Iowa, and Travis Lester (Mary Anne Leonido) of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Nevenhoven of Aplington; step-daughter, Renee Oltrogge of Marion; step-son, Nathan (Michelle) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Damion (Amber) Stohr of Shell Rock, Iowa, Brandon (Kayli) Stohr of Aplington, McKayla (Austin) Schuhmacher of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Samantha Lester (Sam Badger) of Waterloo, Iowa, Olivia Lester (Cameron Edwards) of Grundy Center, Iowa, Bella Lester (Brady Romberg) of Aplington, Meranda Nevenhoven (Tanner Cummings) of Parkersburg, Iowa, Shelton Nevenhoven of Aplington, Alexandra Johnson and Mason Johnson both of Cedar Rapids; his beloved great-grandchildren; and father-in-law, Jerry Engel of Marion, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louvelva (Lester) Brown.
