Folken takes on position as first grade teacher
PARKERSBURG – Longtime Parkersburg Elementary teacher Brenda Folken has been teaching for 32 years, with 29 of those years at A-P, making her one of the longest tenured teachers in the district.
For Folken, the decision to become a teacher was easy.
“I always liked working with kids, and knew I wanted to be a teacher early on,” she said. “The exciting thing for me is seeing them catch on and have those ‘a-ha’ moments where the light bulb goes off.”
For the majority of her career, Folken taught second and third grade, but this year she took on a new position as a first grade teacher at Parkersburg Elementary.
“The opportunity came up last spring to teach first grade, and I felt like it was a good time for a change,” she said. “It’s been really good so far, it sort of lights a new fire.”
