Kenneth DeVries

Kenneth “Kenny” Lee DeVries, age 74, of Stout, Iowa, was born the son of Arthur Henry and Anna (Muller) DeVries on March 19, 1947, in Grundy Center, Iowa. Kenny received his education at Dike Schools in Dike, Iowa.
On July 7, 1967, Kenny was united in marriage with Dianne Lois Heeren at Reformed Church of Stout. After their marriage, the couple lived in various places before they made their home in Stout. Kenny was employed at various jobs that highlighted his skills of welding and farming. His creativity was like no other as he could look at a picture and build it. Kenny worked for Brent Industries for many years and had a welding/repair shop out of his garage.
Kenny was ready and willing to help a friend or family member in need, no matter what the problem or time of day. He enjoyed hunting, tractor pulls and tinkering in the garage. Kenny loved spending time with his family and friends. Pizza parties were always a special event because everyone got together and shared many laughs. Kenny was loved by many and will be missed by all.
On Sunday, August 22, 2021, Kenny passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Stout, of natural causes. Kenny is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Anna DeVries; and his mother-in-law, Margaret Heeren.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dianne; his children, Kristy (Dan) Luiken of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Bruce (Pam) DeVries of New Hartford, Iowa, Mark (Bobbie) DeVries of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Karla Altenbaumer and her special friend, Marty of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his grandchildren, Spencer, Mitchell & Carson Van Hauen, Hailey DeVries, Kyle & Travis Slifer, and Sarah & Amy DeVries; his great grandson, Zavier Slifer; his sisters, Doris (Chuck) Trotta of Rowley, Massachusetts, and Deloris (Arnold) Boekhoff of Wellsburg, Iowa; his father-in-law, Henry (Kathy) Heeren of Parkersburg; his sisters-in-law, Marlene (Jerry) Hoelker of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Linda Heeren of Woodbridge, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and many friends that he enjoyed spending time with.
Funeral services for Kenny were held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at the Reformed Church of Stout in Stout with Pastor Dawson Ackerman officiating. Kristy Luiken, Karla Altenbaumer, Kenny Mehmen and Laverne Weber shared their memories of Kenny. Elaine Schnell accompanied Wayne Arends as he sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Peace In The Valley”. Burial was held at Stout Cemetery in Stout with Kenny Mehmen, Keith Oldenburger, Dennis Aswegan, Donnie DeGroote, Laverne Weber and Dave Mudderman serving as Casketbearers. Honorary Casketbearers were Kenny’s grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services, in Parkersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
