The Aplington-Parkersburg boys basketball team won big in home tilts with Hudson and Jesup last week in Parkersburg.

A-P defeated Hudson, 81-61, on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and rolled Jesup, 74-49, on Friday.

The Falcons have won three in a row, improving to 12-2 overall and 9-2 in the NICL East, where they’re in a four-way tie atop the standings along with Dike-New Hartford, Wapsie Valley and Denver.

After three home games last week, this week’s schedule takes the Falcons on the road: Tuesday at Sumner-Fredericksburg, Thursday at Grundy Center, Friday at Wapsie Valley.

 

PARKERSBURG – Aplington-Parkersburg’s boys had a strong rebounding performance in a one-sided win over the Jesup J-Hawks, 74-49, at A-P High School on Friday, Jan. 22.

Owen Thomas put up 23 points to lead the Falcons, making 10 of his 13 shots from the floor. Thomas and Josh Haan contributed nine rebounds each; Christian Haugstad came off the bench for seven more rebounds to help the Falcons win the rebounding battle by a 37-22 margin.

Jayden Mackie kicked in 14 points and six assists and Gavin Thomas had 13 points. Garrett Hempen posted a triple-nickel with six points, five rebounds and six assists.

A-P made nearly 60 percent of their shots on Friday, compared to 32-percent shooting by the J-Hawks – 5-of-27 from three-point range.

PARKERSBURG – Jayden Mackie matched a career-high with 27 points in Aplington-Parkersburg’s 81-61 win over Hudson on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Mackie got his points on 9-of-14 shooting, including three 3-pointers and hit 6-of-8 free throw attempts. Also scoring in double digits were Owen Thomas with 13 points, Josh Haan with 12 points and Garrett Hempen with 11 points. Hempen chipped in a team-high six assists.

The Pirates committed 21 turnovers and fell behind 50-30 at halftime.
