Terry Lynn Mennen, 73

Terry Lynn Mennen, age 73, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Lester and Jeanette L (Fuls) Mennen on November 25, 1950, in Hampton, Iowa.  Terry was raised on the farm and graduated from Wellsburg High School, in Wellsburg, Iowa, in 1969.  He continued his education at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Business.  While at Wartburg, Terry met his future wife and was a member of the Wartburg football team.

On June 22, 1974, Terry was united in marriage with Janet Lynn Burrack at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, Iowa.  After their marriage, the couple lived in Waterloo and Cedar Falls.  In 1977, Terry and Janet built a home south of Parkersburg.  Through the years, Terry worked in Agricultural and Commercial Lending at PCA in Cedar Falls, Parkersburg State Bank, State Savings Bank in Aplington and finally at GNB in Grundy Center. In 2015, Terry retired after 42 years in the banking industry.

Terry was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg where he sang in the choir, served as Council President and was on several committees  He was also a member of the Parkersburg Rotary Club.  Terry enjoyed golfing, hunting and especially his annual fishing trips with family and friends.  Terry loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events, but his greatest joy was spending time with his seven grandchildren.

On Friday, March 15, 2024, Terry died at his home in Parkersburg after a long battle with cancer.  Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Jeanette Mennen; parents-in-law, Clifford and Helen Burrack; and a nephew, Kevin Henriksen.

Terry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet; two children, Jeff (Kelli) Mennen of Altoona, Iowa, and Jessica (Andy) Pollock of Ankeny, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Addie, Ellie, Lexie, & Josie Pollock, and Everli, Kyler & Keira Mennen; one brother, Ron (Cathy) Mennen of Bulverde, Texas; two sisters, Karen (Bruce) Henriksen of Cedar Falls, and Colette (Steve) Millward of Titusville, Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, David Burrack of Greenfield, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Judy (Ron) Nelson of Greenfield, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkesburg, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at the Redman Funeral & Cremations Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
