Swim team requests city support at council meeting

Supporters of the Barracuda Swim Club in Parkersburg presented to the city council on Monday night and brought members up to speed on some of the challenges they’re currently facing.

Parkersburg is part of the “Big Six,” which also includes Dike, Waverly, Oelwein, Independence and Dysart, and the communities host youth meets around the area each summer. One current issue is starting blocks: the ones the club has are wearing down and will need repairs soon.

Running the club isn’t cheap, and the Barracudas have used most of their revenues over the years on operating costs and repairs and replacements of equipment when necessary.

“We think there’s a lot of miscommunication about what we’re wanting, what we’re asking for and what we really are,” one of the mothers said.
