Teaching is a family tradition for Hoff
APLINGTON - Growing up in a family of teachers, there was never a doubt for A-P Middle School social studies teacher Patty Hoff that she would carry on the tradition.
“I very much grew up in a teaching family,” she said. “My mom was a teacher, my grandma was a teacher, I had aunts and brother-in-laws who are teachers, and my dad was on my local school board for 30 years. There was never any doubt for me that I’d be a teacher, too.”
Hoff has been teaching for 30 years, and is now in her 28th year at A-P. Currently, she teaches 7th and 8th grade social studies and financial literacy, but for many years, she also taught English at the high school and middle school levels.
Hoff grew up in State Center and earned her degree at Iowa State University. After graduating, she taught at a school in Corning, Iowa, for a semester before taking a different teaching position at a school in Sheldon, where she taught for two years.
After she and her husband Allan got married, they moved to the area when Patty got a teaching job at Aplington-Parkersburg.
“After I got the job here, I never looked back,” she said. “I’m very lucky to work in such a great school. I have the best coworkers, the best kids and families, and the administration is awesome.”
