Beverly “Bev” Ann Hempen, 90

Beverly “Bev” Ann Hempen, age 90, of Grundy Center, Iowa, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Benjaman and Gertrude J. (Ruehaak) DeBerg on March 24, 1935, at their home in Kesley, Iowa.  She graduated from Aplington High School in 1952.

On March 5, 1954, Beverly was united in marriage with Ronald Lee Hempen at the Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley, Iowa.  Following their marriage, Beverly and Ronald lived on a farm north of Aplington.  She was always very active in working alongside Ronald with all the farm work. Beverly resided at their farm until her health required her to move into a nursing facility in 2018.  

Beverly was a member of Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Aplington.  She participated in the Ladies Auxiliary and the Aplington Presbyterian Women.  She enjoyed reading, and entertaining friends over coffee.  Beverly was a very caring person and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Beverly died on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ronald in October 1996; a daughter, Kathleen Riniker in 2015; an infant son; an infant granddaughter, Katie Lea; her parents, Benjaman and Gertrude DeBerg and one sister, Barbara Aalderks.

Beverly is survived by one daughter, Karen and her husband, Marlyn Mennenga of Wellsburg, Iowa; four grandchildren, Amy (Jeremy) Eastman, Kerri (fiancé, David Finnegan) Mennenga, Ryan (Rebekah) Mennenga and Faith (Jared) Nolte; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Doug Hull officiating. Pianist was Leneé Pollock and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “How Great Thou Art” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Burial was held at Bethel Reformed Cemetery in Aplington, with Marlyn Mennenga, Ryan Mennenga, Jared Nolte, Jack Campbell, Kyle Campbell, and Drew Campbell serving as Casketbearers. 

Visitation was held one hour before the service at the church.  Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
