APLINGTON – Trick or Treat will be Oct. 29 in Aplington, announced during last Wednesday’s Aplington City Council meeting at City Hall.

The @homeAplington group will be sponsoring games, s’mores, and popcorn at the City Park on that night as well.

The council approved the first reading of an ordinance that will raise the fee for garbage collection from $18 to $20 per residential premise. The second reading will be on the September agenda.

Upon request from Scott Poppen, the council also approved Blake Keys as the newest member of the Aplington Fire Department.

Jeff Ridder with Public Works presented two quotes for a grapple bucket, and approved the purchase from BDS Equipment in the amount of $2,899. Ridder also reported that there will be concrete laid at the parking by the shelter as well as a concrete pad for the dumpster. In addition, he reported one-third of the street lights in town have been changed to LED lighting.

In other business, the council:

- Heard options from firms proposing a new city pool, presented by Holli Harken, Mary Meyer and Erin Monroe;

- Approved a resolution revising salary/wages;

- Heard from new A-P Superintendent Travis Fleshner who introduced himself to the council.
