Berton “Paul” Luebbers, 88

Berton “Paul” Luebbers, 88, of Greene, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022, at his home. Public visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 20, at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Greene. Funeral mass took place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 21, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene. Burial took place in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont, Iowa. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Paul and his family.



Paul Luebbers was born November 24, 1933, to parents Berton and Katherine (O’Loughlin) Luebbers. After graduating from Geneva High School he spent two years serving in the United States Army. Paul married Mavis Tjabring on September 19, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Jay, Shelly and Dan. They raised their family together and farmed near Dumont and Hampton.



He was a member of several groups and organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Dumont Legion, and the Butler County Fair Board. He also served as President of the Association of Iowa Fairs.

Paul was a kind, well-liked man who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a very social person, and he knew somebody wherever he went. He would never miss an opportunity to spend a few minutes visiting with you. Paul loved to read, and you could always find him reading a newspaper, consumer reports, or farming articles. He was very fond of war movies. He also loved animals, especially his dogs and livestock. Paul will be deeply missed by those lucky enough to have known him.



Left to cherish Paul’s memory include his wife Mavis, children; Dan (Dana) Luebbers and Shelly (Frank) Brown, grandchildren; Tiffany (Tylor) Hogan, Brice Luebbers, Kaylee (Jeremy) Bilharz, Boe (Alexis) Brown, Luke (Harley) Brown, and Jesse (Kasey) Brown, eight great-grandchildren, and sister Joan Luebbers.



He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son Jay.
