Butler County barn on All-State Barn Tour

The Younker Family Heritage Farm barn will again be featured on the Iowa Barn Foundation's self-guided All-State Barn Tour on Saturday, Sept.24th and Sunday the 25th.

This 100-plus-year-old barn's restoration was finished in the summer of 2009 and was on the tour for the first time that fall.  This large dairy barn is 115 feet long, 30 feet wide and is of post and beam, mortise and tenon, pegged construction.  One unique feature is the 24-foot tall wooden silo inside it, which was manufactured by the Indiana Silo Company.

One hundred sixty acres of the present two hundred forty acre farm were homesteaded by William F. Younker, the present owners' (Mike Peterson and Jean Jones) great-great grandfather in 1854 and is a registered Iowa Heritage Farm.

The barn is located at 25734 Highway 57, Parkersburg, mid-way between Parkersburg and New Hartford, on the south side of the road and will be open to the general public both days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mike and Jean, son and daughter of previous owner, the late Eleanor Tostlebe Peterson, invite everyone to come out and share in their history.

This is the only Butler County barn on the tour this year.  However, for more area barns, go to the Iowa Barn Foundation's tour webpage:  http://www.iowabarnfoundation.org/tours/fall-tour.htm
