Cross country roundup: Falcons run at Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER – Aplington-Parkersburg competed at the Sam Iverson Invite at Town & Country Golf Course in Grundy Center on Thursday.

The A-P girls finished sixth out of 12 teams with 176 points. Lia Hovenga led the Falcons in 24th place in 22:21. Quinlynn Schultz and Ashley Schipper were clustered close at 27th and 29th in 22:40 and 22:43, respectively; Adison Williamson was 49th in 24:26 and Ella Luebbers ran 51st in 24:31 to round out the top five. Lily Hovenga was 55th in 24:51 and Ellie Price 72nd in 26:50 as non-scorers for the Falcons.

A-P’s boys team finished 13th with a 360 team score. Henry Reints finished 51st in 20:16 for the best Falcon time of the day. Evan Sheesley was 75th in 22:18, Caleb Merryweather placed 76th in 22:26, Isaac Foxen was 77th in 22:33 and Eli Thorne placed 93rd in 29:56.

D-NH GIRLS, BOYS 3RD IN DENVER: The Dike-New Hartford girls and boys cross country teams each finished third in their respective divisions at last Monday’s Denver Invite.

   D-NH’s girls scored 73 points, trailing Denver (24) and Union (55). Taylor Kvale led the Wolverines in fifth overall in 20:33, Izzy Houts was 14th in 22:11, Zoie Callan 16th in 22:54, Rosie Wardell 18th in 24:05 and Miranda Tyler was the last scoring Wolverine in 24:49. Elyse Folkerts (22nd, 25:01) and Drew Petersen (23rd, 25:07) rounded out the varsity lineup.

The D-NH boys scored 52 points, trailing Oelwein (30) and Denver (46) in the standings. The Wolverines had three boys in the top 10: Jacob Gibbs fourth in 18:19; Ian Steffen sixth in 18:29 and Sawyer Wibben ninth in 18:54. Parker Latwesen and Tyler Nystel finished together in 19:27 for 16th and 17th, respectively. Caleb Paulsen was the No. 6 runner in 21st in 20:08, Bryce Petersen was 24th in 20:18.
