D-NH baseball sweeps A-P

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford baseball won both games in the old rivalry with Aplington-Parkersburg, scoring an NICL East doubleheader sweep in Dike on Memorial Day.

The Wolverines won 10-3 in the opening game and claimed the nightcap by a 3-0 margin.

In Game 1, D-NH collected 10 runs on 11 hits, jumping out to a 7-2 lead after three innings. Wil Textor had a home run and two RBI and Nick Reinicke, Zak Wauters, Gus Varney and Ian Steffen all stroked two hits each, with Wauters, Varney, Steffen and Nathan Moore bringing home a run each.

Varney was also the Game 1 winner, allowing two earned runs on one hit in five innings pitched with six strikeouts and three walks.

A-P’s Ely Good hit a double and had an RBI for the Falcons. Cooper Hoff, Devin Davis and Tate Neymeyer all crossed the plate for the Falcons.

In the late game, Wil Textor and Zak Wauters teamed up to shut out the Falcons. Gus Varney provided all the run support with three runs batted in, including a two-run home run in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.

Wil Textor earned the victory with three hits allowed in five innings, four strikeouts and three walks. Wauters added two innings of two-hit relief, with three strikeouts and one walk.

A-P’s Ely Good was 2-for-3 to lead the Falcons.

The Falcons had the bases loaded in the seventh inning with two outs, but Wauters got a strikeout to end the threat and the doubleheader.
