D-NH boys 4th at state indoor

AMES – The Dike-New Hartford boys track and field team placed fourth in Class 2A in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches’ State Indoor Meet at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames last Friday.

D-NH scored 40 points, two shy of Mediapolis in third. Underwood was the team champion with 62 points, followed by Spirit Lake with 60 points.

Jerek Hall led the individual performances with a silver medal in the long jump after landing a best leap of 20 feet, 8 inches. Jay Gatto of Anamosa won the event with a mark of 21 feet, 0.5 inches. Nick Reinicke was fourth in the shot put after tossing it 44 feet, 6.75 inches.

Jace Hall reached the finals of the 60-meter dash, finishing in eighth in 7.40. Rhett Wardell qualified fourth for the 60-meter hurdles and finished fifth in the finals, running 8.75 in the top-8 finals.

D-NH had a trio of fourth-place relay finishes in the shuttle hurdle, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

The Wolverine girls also competed in the girls event, held Thursday in Ames.

Macie Graves reached the 60-meter dash finals, qualifying fifth in 8.48 and finishing fifth in the finals in 8.42. Izzy Houts had a couple of top-8 finishes in the 3,000 (6th, 12:45.21) and 1,500 (7th, 5:43.04).

D-NH’s girls placed fourth in the 4x100 relay, with Graves, Ella Costello, Claire McCumber and Shelby Ohrt running 54.20.
