Dana Jon Anderson, 62

Dana Jon Anderson, age 62, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Vernon H. and Mary M. (Perrin) Anderson on December 8, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.  Dana graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1979.  

Dana studied Communications at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated in 1984.  After his graduation from college, Dana lived in Dyersville for four years and worked at a radio station.  He also called the races at the Dubuque Greyhound Park. Dana moved to Parkersburg and was a DJ for Creative Sound, Inc. He was also employed as a teaching assistant at River Hills School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  

Dana was an ordained minister and performed many weddings.  Dana was a Lay Minister for Peace Lutheran Fellowship.  He served on the church council and was a sound tech at Bethel Lutheran Church.  He also served as a sound tech for many different church’s outdoor activities.  Dana was a Grand Master of the Black Hawk and Dike Masonic Lodges and served as secretary in both Lodges.  Dana was the Most Illustrious  Grandmaster of York Rite Iowa.  Dana officiated high school football, basketball, and softball games.  He announced many games, but his favorite time was when he helped announce the “More Than A Game”  program with Rick Coleman for the first football game after the tornado.  Dana was a big Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chief fan.  He enjoyed supporting and loudly cheering on his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews for their events.  He loved his dogs, especially Luke and Clyde.  Dana knew how to love and he loved hard.

  Dana went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1, 2023.  Dana is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mary Anderson; two brothers, Darrel and Richard Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Galen Wiegmann and JW White; and three nieces, Cassie, Callie and Carrie Anderson.

Dana is survived by four brothers, Donald (Marlys) Anderson of Cedar Falls, Craig (Deloris) Anderson of Parkersburg, Rodney (Brenda) Anderson of Parkersburg, Kenneth (Kazue) Anderson of Rotonda West, Florida, three sisters, Denise White of St. Petersburg, Florida, Brenda Wiegmann of Parkersburg, and Karen (Matthew) Webber of Parkersburg; one sister-in-law, Joyce Anderson of Cedar Falls; many nieces, and nephews; and special friends, Mike Allspach of Parkersburg and Lynette White of Cedar Falls.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home.  Harry O and Kendal Crawford shared memories.  Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, with Mike Allspach, Harry O, Lynette White, Kendal Crawford and Dennis Knock serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
