Florence Oelmann

Florence Oelmann, 93, of Aplington and formerly of Ackley, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Maple Manor in Aplington. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Austinville Christian Reformed Church with burial in the Austinville Cemetery. Visitation was on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Florence Irene (Allspach) Oelmann was born on December 25, 1927 in rural Parkersburg, Iowa, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Trey) Allspach. Florence died on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Maple Manor Village, Aplington, IA of natural causes.
She was baptized at Stout Reformed Church in Stout. She attended school in rural Parkersburg and graduated from Dike High School in 1945. Florence went to Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and taught rural school. On March 29, 1950 she was united in marriage to Raymond Oelmann at Stout Reformed Church. They made their home and farmed near Ackley, Iowa. Raymond passed away on November 27, 2004. In 2014 Florence moved to Maple Manor Assisted Living and in 2019 to Maple Manor Village.
Florence was a member of Austinville Christian Reformed Church. She participated in the Ladies Aid and various church activites. She also taught Sunday School and Catechism. Florence sent cards to many people in church and the community. People appreciated her notes of encouragement. She was a member of Gideons with her husband. She was also a member of a neighborhood coffee club. Florence always enjoyed spending time with her family and loved when the grandchildren came to visit.
Florence is survived by her children: Kenny (Mary) of Greene; June (Dale) Brands of Sioux Center; Gene of Marshalltown; Mark (Merry) of Cedar Falls; Cindy Oelmann of Aplington; six grandchildren, Andrea (Kris) Hellenberg; Amanda (Scott) Courcey; Dustin (Rachel) Oelmann; Zephan Oelmann; Anton Oelmann; Christina Oelmann; six great-grandchildren; six sisters, Henri Damiano; Jean (Robert) Miersema; Wilma (Roger) Winkels; Maggie Christensen, Mary (Ed) Harken and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brother, James Allspach; and brother-in-laws, Robert Damiano; Robert Christensen.
