Frieda McBride, 94

Frieda McBride, 94, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. Cremation Rites have been accorded and no formal services will be held at this time. Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Frieda May was born May 12, 1930, to Fred and Pearl (Ash) Aswegan in Stout, IA. She attended school in Stout before attending and graduating from Grundy Center High School. Frieda had four children: Allen, Margo, Gordon, and Ann. She married Robert McBride and gained another daughter, Connie Lundy. The two lived in Parkersburg, IA and Frieda worked as a nursing assistant in the Emergency Room at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. 

Robert and Frieda moved to Conrad, IA where she was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Conrad. She also enjoyed making rugs for the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, IA, and sewing for relatives and friends in Conrad. Frieda was a hard worker, retiring as a school bus driver. 

She will be missed by her sons, Allen McDowell of Ste. Genevieve, MO and Gordon (Pam) McDowell of Grundy Center, IA, her daughter Ann (Dave) Harms of Union, IA, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Fred Aswegan of Columbia, MO. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margo Bolton, and her siblings, Harold, Ray, Earl, and Bertha Diamond.
