Genevieve Neymeyer

Genevieve Evelyn Neymeyer, 94, of Aplington, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City of complications of COVID-19. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 5 at the Austinville Christian Reformed Church with burial in the West Friesland Cemetery. A time of viewing was an hour before the service. Masks and social distancing are required. Memorials may be directed to the family. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Genevieve, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Bulten) Smeins, was born November 18, 1926 in Aplington. She received her education in the Aplington School System.
On August 14, 1945, she was united in marriage to Wayne I. Neymeyer. They established their home on a farm southwest of Austinville.
Genevieve was a member of the Austinville Christian Reformed Church. She worked for many years at Maple Manor and Presbyterian Village. She liked to feed and watch the birds out of her kitchen window and also to see her flowers. Every year she would order new bulbs of tulips and gladiolus even though she couldn’t plant them herself. She would watch John Hagee and her Bible Study every morning.
Her grandkids and great-grandkids loved baking with her and loved her cookies. Grandma looked forward to baking for them.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Wayne. Her parents, her sister Catherine Whitmire and her brothers Eppogene and Paul.
She is survived by one daughter Gayle Willms of Ackley and three sons: Douglas (Rosemary), Ryan (Kathy) of Ackley and Brent at home. She was a grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Harlan (Martha) Smeins of Ackley and two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Smeins of Aplington and Shirley Smeins of Earlville and many nieces and nephews.
