Serving together in several local organizations, Daniel and Hermine Schwickerath have worked toward keeping Aplington a vibrant, interesting community.

Dan served as the first elected President and Hermine was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Aplington Historical Society. Their love of local residents and enthusiasm for the cause of preserving local history drew them to the local organization. They have helped with fundraisers for many years.

Both also served on the Aplington Beautification Commission where Dan was the President and Herm was the Vice-President. They helped plant many trees as part of the group’s mission to beautify the city and show community pride.

Dan and Herm have a blended family after each lost their spouses in 1984. They have lived in Aplington for 23 years but have lived in surrounding areas most of their lives.

They feel it has been fascinating to find the early stories of Aplington and help preserve them.

They encourage others to join the group and visit the museum.

Herm commented that 2 of her children (Terry and Brent Ridder) were graduates of Aplington High School.

Anyone wishing to send memorial gifts or donations to the Aplington Historical Society can use post office box #4.

Donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
