Gloria Miller

Gloria Fern Miller, age 83, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Milo and Faerine (Grey) Smith on November 8, 1937, in Hamburg, Iowa. Gloria graduated from Melbourne High School in Melbourne, Iowa, in 1956. After graduation, Gloria worked at the A.S.C.S. office in Marshalltown, Iowa, for four years.
On July 8, 1960, Gloria was united in marriage with Daniel Miller at Bethel Reformed Church. The couple lived on a farm north of Aplington. To this union, a son, Rick, was born. The couple later divorced. Gloria lived on the farm until her stroke in 2017, and then moved to Maple Manor Village. She later moved to Parker Place in Parkersburg.
Gloria was a past member of Bethel Reformed Church, where she taught catechism and Sunday School. Gloria enjoyed and took pride in keeping up her acreage. She enjoyed coffee time with her friends, but her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow up.
Gloria died Friday, November 27, 2020, at Parker Place in Parkersburg. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jerry Comer, Mel Comer and Milo Smith, Jr.; and one sister, Joy Smith.
Gloria is survived by one son, Rick (Melissa) Miller of Clear Lake, Iowa; two granddaughters, Danielle Miller (fiancé, Brody Rohach) of Forest City, Iowa, and Kelsey (Brandon) Peters of Aplington; two great grandchildren, Cecilia and Wade Peters; three brothers, William (June) Smith of Mequon, Wisconsin, Richard (Deb) Comer of Waukee, Iowa, and Alan (Fatima) Comer of Miramar, Florida; and one sister, Pat Thiele of La Porte City, Iowa.
Private family services were held 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Pastor Brett VanderBerg officiated the service. Special music, “How Great Thou Art” sung by Chris Rice and “The Old Rugged Cross” sung by Alan Jackson was played. Burial was held at Bethel Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Aplington, with Danielle Miller, Kelsey Peters, Brody Rohach, Brandon Peters, Jeff Thiele and Dick Comer serving as Casketbearers
