Johanna Reiners, 103

Johanna Reiners, age 103, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Van Hauen) DeGroote on March 15, 1920, on their farm north of Sinclair, Iowa.  Johanna received her education at Albion #6 Country School and Parkersburg High School.

On October 23, 1937, Johanna was united in marriage with Heiko Jerry Reiners in Allison, Iowa.  After their marriage, the couple lived on a farm northeast of Sinclair.  In 1967, Johanna and Heiko moved into the home they built in Parkersburg.  Johanna was a full-time wife and mother, but over the years she also worked part-time at the Parkersburg Hatchery, she detasseled corn and sorted seed corn at O’s Gold Seed Company.

Johanna was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.  She also attended their Women’s Circle.  Johanna enjoyed raising flowers and playing cards with family and friends.  She especially enjoyed the game when she won. 

  On Saturday, July 8, 2023, Johanna died at Parker Place in Parkersburg.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Heiko, on August 24, 1992; a daughter, Carol Reiners; her parents, Henry and Elizabeth DeGroote; four sisters, Anna Huisinga, Florence Lewis, Elizabeth Collings and Henrietta Benning; four brothers, Henry DeGroote, Harm DeGroote, Marion DeGroote and baby DeGroote.  

Johanna is survived by three sons, Henry (Bonnie) Reiners, Heiko, Jr. (Karen) Reiners and Dennis (Terry) Reiners; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren; one sister, Sarah (Donavan) Truax; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Public Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services, Redman Funeral Home in Parkersburg.

Private Family Graveside Services will be Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa.
