Kenneth Luhring

Kenneth Lee Luhring, age 80 of Parkersburg, passed away on December 19, 2021 at home surrounded by family. Kenneth was born on August 19, 1941 in Aplington at the DeBoer sisters’ home to Johann and Henrietta (Meester) Luhring. He attended Beaver #4 Rural School and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1959. Kenny married Rosie Seehusen on March 28, 1962 at the Colfax Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. After high school, he worked at the John Deere Plant in Waterloo for 8 months, worked as a farm hand for 4 years, and then found his passion as an oil jobber for the Standard Oil Company, where he enjoyed visiting with his many customers. After multiple successful years with Standard Oil, he proudly began the Luhring Oil Company, where he was able to independently run his own gas business for 31 years. Even while managing his own business, Kenny enjoyed driving the school bus for the Parkersburg School District for nine and a half years and raising feeder pigs for 40 years.
Kenny always knew how to enjoy his free time. When his kids were in school, he loved attending their many activities. For many years, he participated in bowling leagues. As an avid farmer and gardener, he loved attending the state fair every summer. Kenny spent a lot of time with friends and family on the golf course, playing pool, hunting, and camping.
Kenny was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder for many years. He and Rosie were involved in the Couples’ Club and the church choir. He strived to improve his community by being an active member of the Lion’s Club.
Kenny was survived by his wife, Rosie; children; Mark (Karen) Luhring of Parkersburg, Iowa, Mardell (Ron) Eilderts of Overland Park, Kansas, Michelle (Dean) Everts of Parkersburg, Iowa, Mary (Daran) Bartels of Newton, Iowa, and Malea (Brad) Wyant of Aplington, Iowa; grandchildren; Brittany (Mark) Asche, Breanne (Ben) Miller, Brendon (Emily) Luhring, Shannon (Ricky) Harrison, Shalee Eilderts, Kyle (Jeana) Everts, Kelton Everts, Alex Bartels, Alyssa Bartels, Aaron Bartels, Corbin Wyant, Carsten Wyant, Caelor Wyant; great-grandchildren; Brynlee Asche, Braelyn Asche, Paxton Miller, Grady Harrison, Kellen Everts, and Jaxsen Everts; siblings; Herman Luhring, Evelyn (Bernie) Conrads, Esther (Marvin) Eiklenborg, Phyllis (Don) Settle, Larry (Marty) Luhring, Janice (Wayne) Arends, brother-in-law, Reverend Ray Kruger, sisters-in-law; Vada Luhring and Judy Luhring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johann and Henrietta Luhring; brothers, Johannes and LeRoy Luhring; sisters, JoAnn Kruger, Mary Ann Danger; sisters-in-law, Shirley Luhring and Darilyn Luhring; and brother-in-law, Darrell Danger.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in Holland, Iowa. Rev. Rick Vollema officiated. Randy Aalderks performed “O Holy Night” and “I Bowed on My Knees”. The congregation sang “Does Jesus Care?” and “It Is Well with My Soul”. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg with Kyle Everts, Kelton Everts, Brendon Luhring, Alex Bartels, Aaron Bartels, Corbin Wyant, Carsten Wyant, and Caelor Wyant serving as Casketbearers.  Honorary Casketbearers were Shannon Harrison, Brittany Asche, Shalee Eilderts, Breanne Miller, and Alyssa Bartels.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Parkersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Redman Funeral & Cremation Services in Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements.
