Laura Lynn Hippen, 54

Laura Lynn Hippen, age 54, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Dennis Merle and Evelyn Joan (DeGroot) Hippen on March 11, 1968, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Laura graduated from Aplington High School in 1986.  Laura moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa, and attended Ellsworth Community College and also worked at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital.  Laura later earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse in May 2003.  She moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, and worked at Tama Pack as a med nurse.  Laura moved to Aplington and worked at Rohlf Memorial Clinic in Waverly, Iowa.  Laura worked at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, in the obstetrics department. She also worked as a para-educator at the Aplington-Parkersburg Elementary and High School.  She later owned and operated her own business, Small Town Home Care.  

Laura was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington.  She was very active in the Relay for Life and had her own team, “Team Knockout”.  Laura enjoyed gardening, especially flowers.  She also loved to bake.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022,  Laura died at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.  Laura is preceded in death by her parental grandparents, John and Irene Hippen and her maternal grandparents, Jack and Vera DeGroot.

Laura is survived by her parents, Dennis and Evelyn Hippen of Aplington; two brothers, Michael (Wanda) Hippen of Parkersburg and Matthew Hippen of Aplington; two sisters, Lisa Hippen of Aplington and Lynn (D. Nick) Seedorff of Janesville, Iowa; her niece and nephews, Justin, Luke, Samuel, John, Eve, Keagan and Jace; two special cousins, Dakota and Dexter Cox; and her dog, Willow.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington, with Pastor Scott Summers officiating.  Lynn Seedorff will share some readings.  Belva Schipper will be the organist and she will accompany the congregation as they sing “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and “It Is Well With My Soul”.  Special music, “Fly Again” sung by David Phelps will be played.  Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington with Dakota Cox and Dexter Cox serving as Casketbearers.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, at Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington, and one hour before the memorial service.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Redman Funeral & Cremation Services, Aplington Funeral Chapel in Aplington is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
