A-P boys cross country races to top-10 finish

GRUNDY CENTER – Jesse Washington led A-P boys cross country to a ninth-place team finish at the Sam Iverson Invitational at Town & Country Golf Course in Grundy Center on Thursday.

The boys scored 264 points, winning a tiebreaker with Montezuma by virtue of No. 6 runner Isaac Foxen placing ahead of Montezuma’s sixth runner. Washington was 19th overall in 18:21. The other varsity scorers were Henry Reints in 58th in 19:45, Jonah Carney 60th in 19:52, Kamdon Hoppenworth 63rd in 20:02 and Evan Sheesley 64th in 20:04. Tyler Birch also ran varsity, finishing 94th in 23:26.

Lia Hovenga guided the A-P girls to a 13th-place team finish, running 21:30 for 19th place. Ashley Schipper was 32nd in 22:21 and Adison Williamson 58th in 23:55.
