A-P boys tennis continues to climb the rankings

PARKERSBURG – Aplington-Parkersburg finished a perfect week with a 9-0 win against Independence at the Aplington Recreation Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons moved up to sixth in the 1A boys tennis coaches poll released on April 26.

A-P didn't lose a single game to the Mustangs, with a clean 8-0 sweep for Cameron Luhring, Owen Thomas, Tate Neymeyer, Cael Lupkes, Christian Haugstad and Zach Klahsen in singles play – Luhring/Lupkes, Haugstad/Neymeyer and Thomas/Adam Maske shut out their opponents in doubles play.

The Falcons have two road matches later this week, taking on Grundy Center on Thursday and 1A No. 9 Ballard on Friday. Aplington-Parkersburg will compete in a district meet at Waverly-Shell Rock at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, with a rain date of Friday, May 14. Waterloo Columbus is the only other ranked team scheduled to compete there, with the top two teams advancing to the substate team tournament at Waterloo on Saturday, May 22.
