The Aplington-Parkersburg High School Drama Department's spring play, "Kokonut High," might be the cure for anyone with the winter blues, or looking for something fun to do with family.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, with tickets costing $5 - activity passes will be honored.

There will also be a free matinee at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 that is open to the public.

A-P Drama director Bobbi Abbas said "Kokonut High" is a spirited play with a cast of funny characters, with 32 A-P students in the cast working on the play since January, and Bobbi and assistant director Kim Abbas are excited for the audience to see what the cast does with an already humorous script.

The story follows Cordelia Hawkins, the owner of a resort island trying to find a way to keep the island after a hurricane damages it. With the help of her kids, Betty and Ethel, teaming up with the natives - Maw Cawawkee, Suky, Roy Boy and Swampy - they try to raise money by opening up a school.

Students and their mothers show up, as do honeymooners, nurses, an insurance agent, the board of education, and Captain Kidd - not to mention a cast of "shady" characters trying to sabotage the plans to save the island.

The A-P community is encouraged to come out to support the drama department and enjoy a fun evening of family entertainment.
