A-P volleyball 2nd at St. Edmond tournament

FORT DODGE – Aplington-Parkersburg volleyball started the season with four wins, finishing as the runner-up at a St. Edmond Invitational in Fort Dodge on Saturday.

The Falcons defeated Pocahontas Area, Bishop Garrigan, St. Edmond and Southeast Valley. In the championship match, Webster City rallied to a three-set victory by scores of 17-21, 21-19, 15-13.

Kasidy Mohwinkle had 13 kills and nine digs in the championship match with Webster City. Kinsey Mohwinkle added seven kills and Peyton Klooster had five kills. Ellen Waller and Ellie Etjen had 11 and six digs, respectively, to bolster the Falcon defense.

Across all five matches on Saturday, Kasidy Mohwinkle terminated 46 kills and Kinsey had 22, adding a team-leading 11 total blocks. Klooster landed 19 kills and Etjen had 15 successful attacks. Defensively, Ellen Waller led the way with 48 digs, followed by Kasidy Mohwinkle with 34 digs and Etjen with 33. Libby Janssen distributed 93 assists to her offensive options and contributed 29 digs.

The Falcons served at a 90-percent success rate on Saturday; Etjen had the most aces with five on 42-of-47 serving and Cortnee Alberts was the most efficient at 35-of-36 from the line.

A-P turns its attention to NICL Central play, beginning at Waterloo Columbus on Tuesday, followed by a triangular at Meskwaki on Thursday against the Warriors and North Tama.
