A-P/GC wrestling ends Senior Night with win

PARKERSBURG – Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center boys wrestling sent the home crowd happy with a dual victory over NBC to close out a quadrangular at A-P High School for the Falcons’ Senior Night last Thursday.

A-P/GC fell to East Marshall/GMG, 42-31; and lost to Denver, 47-33, before bouncing back to beat NB-C.

Seniors Carson Troyna and Joe Johnson chipped in team points in the dual victory with back-to-back pins to start the dual. Connor Kellum notched a win at the start of the day against his 138-pounder in the EM/GMG dual.

Clay Saak, Trent Cakerice and Carter Liston went 3-0 on Thursday. Troyna was one of four with two wins, as well as Ryder Slifer, Dylan Knaack and Austin Shepard.

A-P/GC’s GIRLS SENIORS PERFECT: Lia Hovenga, Ella Luebbers and Shayla Barrett all won their matches against NBC grapplers on Thursday.

All three wins were by fall in the first period. Kayden Muller added two wins by fall and Avery Freund was also a winner by pinfall. Ellie Reints battled to a 20-5 loss by tech fall in the second period against NB-C’s Ceanna Capper.
