A-P's Janssen, Neymeyer qualify for state doubles

Aplington-Parkersburg’s doubles team of Libby Janssen and Adria Neymeyer advanced to the state doubles tournament after their performances at a singles/doubles regional tournament in Waterloo on Wednesday, May 11.

Janssen and Neymeyer defeated Taryn Nolting and Keely Post of Independence in the semifinals to punch their ticket to the state tournament, which is May 27-28 in Iowa City. They also beat teams from Columbus and Western Dubuque.

In the finals, Janssen and Neymeyer lost to Columbus’ Chloe Butler and Avery Hogan.

Ellie Etjen and Courtnee Alberts dropped a tiebreaker against a duo from Dubuque Wahlert in the quarterfinals.

In singles’ action, Lily Hovenga played a hard-fought semifinal match with Sophia Fain but lost 6-3, 6-3. She finished fourth after dropping the third-place match to South Hardin’s Jaidyn Teske.

Over the weekend, A-P advanced to the regional finals in the team tournament with a 5-0 win over Clear Lake and a 5-2 win against Waverly-Shell Rock in Waverly on Saturday, May 14.

A-P will play Decorah at Luther College on Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m.
