Aplington-Parkersburg junior Jayden Mackie earned first-team recognition in Class 2A on the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s all-state basketball teams released Tuesday.

Mackie averaged 14.4 points per game to lead the 2A state semifinalist Falcons and added 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He was a member of the Class 2A all-tournament team after scoring 55 points in two games at state, including 34 points in a quarterfinal win over Van Meter.

He’s one of four juniors on the eight-person team, joining Western Christian’s Ty Van Essen, Boyden-Hull’s Tanner Te Slaa and Okoboji’s Lucas Lorenzen as 11th-grade first-teamers. Senior first-teamers included Cooper DeJean of OABCIG, Iowa Falls-Alden’s Karson Sharar, East Sac County’s Camden Schroeder and Boyden-Hull’s Marcus Kelderman.

Tucker DeVries of Waukee was selected as Mr. Iowa Basketball 2021. DeVries is a Drake University commit, where he’ll play on the Bulldogs’ men’s team for his father, Aplington native Darian DeVries.
