A-P's Neymeyer on All-NICL Central first team

Aplington-Parkersburg sophomore Tate Neymeyer earned first-team recognition on the All-NICL Central baseball teams released last week.

Neymeyer was selected at outfielder after a season hitting .312 with two doubles, 13 runs batted in and scoring 16 runs. He also stole four bases and threw 14 and one-third innings for the Falcons with a 4.88 ERA.

A-P also had two second-team selections with Kale Riherd at catcher and Garrett Hempen earning a utility slot.

Riherd hit .298 with six doubles, a home run and 14 runs batted in for the Falcons as a senior. He also threw out seven baserunners trying to steal and had a .975 fielding percentage.

Hempen, a junior, hit .354 with two doubles, nine runs batted in and 15 runs scored. He stole 11 bases on 13 attempts.

The Falcons finished 3-9 in the five-team division. Dike-New Hartford won the Central title with a perfect 12-0 record.

D-NH junior Gus Varney shared Central MVP honors with Waterloo Columbus’ Carter Gallagher.

Varney was one of four unanimous first-team selections at middle infielder, joining pitcher Wil Textor, catcher Nick Reinicke and outfielder Devon Kollasch.

Varney hit for a .510 average this summer, including 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 47 runs batted in. He stole seven bases and was a perfect 5-0 on the mound in 33 and two-third innings pitched, with a 3.33 earned run average, 36 strikeouts and 18 walks.

Wil Textor was 7-0 on the mound in 44 innings pitched, striking out 34 with only six walks. He hit .346 with five doubles, two homers and 21 runs batted in.

Reinicke threw out three baserunners behind the plate and posted a .964 fielding percentage. He hit .370 with seven doubles, six home runs and 34 runs batted in.

Kollasch hit .347 with six doubles, three home runs and 22 runs batted in in his senior season. He also tied for the team lead with 14 stolen bases.

D-NH second teamers included Lewis Textor at pitcher, Colin Meester at third base, Micah Walston at middle infield and Carson Costello in the outfield.

Honorable mention went to Devin Davis of Aplington-Parkersburg and Ian Steffen of Dike-New Hartford.
