A-P's Switzer, Janssen honored on All-NICL Central teams

Aplington-Parkersburg freshman Ada Switzer earned second-team recognition on the All-NICL Central Softball teams released recently.

Switzer was selected at second base on the teams representing the five-school division. She hit .388 with eight doubles and one triple with a team-leading 15 runs batted in. In the pitchers’ circle, she threw 74 innings with 47 strikeouts and 55 walks and an ERA of 8.42. She also posted a .941 fielding percentage.

A-P senior Libby Janssen earned honorable mention.

Dike-New Hartford senior Taylor Kvale was named the NICL Central Most Valuable Player.

Kvale, an Upper Iowa signee, hit .407 this season with eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 runs batted in with 39 runs scored. She stole 36 bases on 39 attempts and posted a .959 fielding percentage.

The Wolverines had four other selections to the first team, including unanimous first-team picks Madisen Theel at pitcher and Payton Nolan at utility. Second baseman Madde Buskohl and outfielder Abby Jensen were also first-team selections.

Theel pitched 108 and one-third innings with 87 strikeouts to 33 walks and an earned run average of 2.52 in her junior season. Payton Nolan led the team with a .439 batting average, including four doubles, three triples and a team-leading 23 runs batted in. She also led the team with a .539 on-base percentage. As the Wolverines’ catcher, she threw out eight attempted base stealers.

Buskohl, a freshman, hit .329 with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 runs batted in. Abby Jensen, an eighth-grader, hit .358 with four doubles, one triple and 13 runs batted in and swiped six stolen bases.

Shelby Ohrt and Ella Costello were unanimous second-team picks for D-NH at third base and outfielder, respectively. Misty Harreld received honorable mention.

D-NH head coach Rhandi Oelmann received Coach of the Year honors.
