Robert Schell

Robert Lee Schell, “Bob” age 70, of Grundy Center, Iowa, was born the son of Walter Louis and Harmena Pauline (Kadous) Schell on November 3, 1949, Waterloo, Iowa.  He received his education and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1967.  Bob served in the United States Air Force from January 15, 1969, and was honorably discharged from active duty on January 5, 1973.  During his enlistment he served overseas in England and Germany as a jet mechanic, He continued his military service in the United States Airforce Reserves until January 14, 1975.

On September 20, 1980, Bob was united in marriage with Janice Kay Lewis at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, Iowa.  The couple had lived in the communities of Parkersburg, Cedar Falls, Evansdale and Grundy Center.  Through the years he had worked at Waterloo Industries, Viking Pump, DC Industries, Eagle Tannery, was a construction worker, and retired from John Deere October 31, 2014.

Bob was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg where he was baptized and confirmed.  He also was a former member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale.  Bob was an active member of the Clarksville AMVETS post #30 and also the Evansdale AMVETS post #31.  He also belonged to the NRA and the Falling Rock Walleye Club when he was younger.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, going camping and just being in the outdoors.  He very much enjoyed watching sports especially football, nature documentaries, old westerns and war movies.  In his recent years Bob and Janice went to their first live concert and saw Micky Dolenz and the Fab Four which became a fun and very memorable time, and once again they went to see them with their kids and also had a great time.  Family was very important to him, so he enjoyed spending time with them.

Bob passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, from a brief battle with cancer.  He was preceded in death by parents, one sister, Cindy Schell, and his in-laws, Harold and Hazel Lewis.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Janice Schell of Grundy Center; three children, Kristi Schell, Kimberly (Matthew) Loy, and Matthew Schell all of Grundy Center; one brother, Randy “Red” (Glenda) Schell of Clarksville; two sisters, Patty Schell of Parkersburg, and Tammy Schell (Rod Richardson) of Aplington; two brothers-in-law, Tom (Becky) Lewis and Mike (Stacy) Lewis; and two sisters-in-law, Diane Dean) Price and Linda (Mick) Donavan, many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Dave (Virginia) Cutsforth of Waterloo.

Viisitation will be held Friday August 21, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, Iowa. Private family graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. Matthew Schell will serve as urnbearer, with Matthew Loy, Jason Luchtenburg, Rod Richardson, Mike Lewis, Mick Donavon, Red Schell, Dustin Schell, Dave Cutsforth, Brady Lewis, Dean Price, Dan Schell, Joe Schell, Tom Lewis, Jeremiah Donavon and Quinten Ledesma serving as honorary Urnbearers.  Military Rites will be conducted by Clarksville AMVETS Post #30. Memorials may be directed to the family of Robert Schell.
