Stotler leads A-P girls track and field at Humboldt

HUMBOLDT – Aplington-Parkersburg girls track and field competed in its only scheduled indoor meet of the season at the Nielsen Family Co-Ed Indoor at Humboldt on Friday.

The Falcons did not field competitors in every event but scored 32.5 team points nonetheless, finishing fifth in the five-team field that included Humboldt, Forest City, Pocahontas Area and South Hamilton.

Sommer Stotler posted the top individual finish with a win in the finals of the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 8.78 seconds, four-tenths of a second better than runner-up Tiffany Sheets of Pocahontas Area. Stotler also broke off an 8.65 run in the prelims.

Other team scorers in running events included Seyann Luhring, fourth in the 60-meter hurdle finals in 11.13; Ellen Waller running fifth in the 200 in 30.94; Adison Williamson seventh in the 400 in 1:14.98 and Lia Hovenga taking fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 6:16.10.

Kinsey Mohwinkle cleared the high jump bar at 4 feet, 4 inches, earning sixth in the event.

In the relays, the 4x800 quartet of Halle Buseman, Lily Hovenga, Ashley Schipper and Adison Williamson ran 2nd in 11:52.84. The Falcons claimed bronze in the 4x200 (Shayla Barrett, Lexi Aswegen, Estelle Cashatt, Mohwinkle) and the distance medley (Stotler, Luhring, Waller, Ella Luebbers).

The outdoor season is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 6 in Grundy Center.
