Three more wins for A-P girls

Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball climbed one spot in the state rankings in Class 2A last week in the midst of a 3-0 performance with wins against Columbus, Union and Denver.

A-P sunk the Sailors 74-39 on Monday, Jan. 16 in Parkersburg; claimed a 71-32 victory at Union on Thursday and bested the Cyclones, 51-40, in the Cyclone Center on Friday.

The Falcons improved to 13-2 overall and 4-2 in the NICL Central pod.

Next up are crossovers at Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-8) on Tuesday and back home against Wapsie Valley (5-11) on Friday.

A-P 74, COLUMBUS 39: Ellen Waller scored 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and Quinnlyn Schultz added 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshman Ava Eddy poured in 12 coming off the bench.

A-P 71, UNION 32: Kendall Riherd exploded for 25 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Falcons on Thursday in a make-up game from earlier this season. She added a team-leading six rebounds. Peyton Klooster and Ava Eddy each scored nine points coming off the bench. Ellen Waller chipped in eight points and five steals.

A-P 51, DENVER 40: The Falcons outscored Denver 23-6 in the first quarter of Friday’s game.

Ellen Waller led the way with 16 points - Kendall Riherd added 11 points and seven rebounds. Kennedy Lind added eight points, six rebounds and seven blocked shots.

A-P led 34-19 at halftime. Lexi Aswegen came off the bench for five points and eight rebounds.
