Bill was baptized into the Christian Faith and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church Vilmar in rural Greene, Iowa. He graduated from Greene High School in 1959.

On March 12, 1961, Bill was united in marriage with Irene Mae Franken at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. After marriage, the couple farmed various places in Butler County. Bill was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. In the past he served on the Church Council and property committee. He was a mentor and regularly attended Bible Studies and Adult Sunday School.

Bill was an outstanding woodworker and enjoyed repairing furniture. He made the Church’s pew Bible holders and the cross that is currently displayed, was made by Bill and his son. He enjoyed History, his trips to England, and watching the History Channel and Old Westerns. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their concerts and programs. Bill loved to fish, especially ice fishing, and won many trophies. He loved to put up his Halloween display in front of his house in Aplington and add to it each year.
