William “Bill” Charles Senne, 82
William “Bill” Charles Senne, age 82, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Hugo and Ruth (Voigts) Senne on May 27, 1941, in Waverly, Iowa. Bill was baptized into the Christian Faith and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church Vilmar in rural Greene, Iowa. He graduated from Greene High School in 1959.
On March 12, 1961, Bill was united in marriage with Irene Mae Franken at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. After marriage, the couple farmed various places in Butler County. In 1976, Bill and Irene moved to Aplington, and he started working for Butler-Grundy Farm Service for 23 years. He then worked as a carpenter for Paul Hosch until retirement. In 2021, the couple then moved to their current home in Iowa Falls.
Bill was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. In the past he served on the Church Council and property committee. He was a mentor and regularly attended Bible Studies and Adult Sunday School.
Bill was an outstanding woodworker and enjoyed repairing furniture. He made the Church’s pew Bible holders and the cross that is currently displayed, was made by Bill and his son. He enjoyed History, his trips to England, and watching the History Channel and Old Westerns. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their concerts and programs. Bill loved to fish, especially ice fishing, and won many trophies. He loved to put up his Halloween display in front of his house in Aplington and add to it each year. Many people would return yearly to see Bill’s display.
On Saturday, October 21, 2023, Bill passed away at Scenic Living Communities in Iowa Falls, from a battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Alisabeth Edeker.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene of Iowa Falls; three children, Jacquelyn Edeker of Jewell, Iowa, Lisa (Jerry) Luhring of Iowa Falls, and Anthony (Lisa) Senne of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren, Katie (Drew) Hildal, Dale Edeker, Chelsea Luhring, Megan Luhring, Olivia Luhring, Hayley Senne, and Nikolas Senne; and three great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Luke, and Benjamin; and one brother, Stanley (Marie) Senne of Allison.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Jill Pliner will officiate the service. Lector for the service will be Dan Frey and the organist will be Amy Truax. Roma Ries will sing “Go Rest High on That Mountain” and “God Be with You”. The congregation will sing “Leaning On the Everlasting Arm” and “Blessed Assurance”. Burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington with Dan Albrecht, Kendal Kannegieter, Randy Siems and Brent Fisher serving as Urnbearers. Honorary Urnbearers will be Ed Siems, Nathan Kannegieter, Jeff Jacobson and Tom Turner.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Aplington Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
