Mark Nunge
Mark Nunge was born to Richard and Joyce Nunge in Postdam, New York on August 29, 1967. He attended Rochester University where he played basketball and graduated with a degree in Biology. He received his Doctorate of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He married Beth Poppens on September 26, 1992. They made their home in Atlanta, GA for his residency in Emergency Medicine at Emory. They started their family in Lynchburg, VA. Five kids later, they moved closer to Beth’s roots in Iowa City, IA. Mark found much joy in teaching medical students and working with residents at the University of Iowa. Since 2010, they have lived in Newburgh, IN, where Mark practiced medicine at Deaconess Hospital.
Mark was an avid runner, and used that time for mindfulness and reflection. He would often return from his runs with sage life advice. He loved sports and enjoyed watching his children compete, though you might not have been able to tell by his stoicism at the games.
Mark loved to discuss, debate, and engage in friendly banter about the complexities of life. He greeted others with a warm smile and made a concerted effort to bring them happiness. Through his diligence in work and in life, he made life better for the people around him.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Beth, his five children: Rebecca, Jack, Jessica, Bob and Joey, and his parents, Richard and Joyce Nunge.
