A-P FFA racks up subdistrict awards

The delay was worth the wait for Aplington-Parkersburg's chapter of Future Farmers of America.

The A-P FFA participated in subdistrict contests at Nevada High School on Friday, Feb. 19, postponed from Monday, Feb. 15 due to cold weather.

A-P members received four first-place ratings, one second place and one third place, with A-P advancing members or teams in five different categories to the district competition.

Judges issued gold ratings to A-P FFA in Conduct of Meetings – team of Tommy Janssen, Cora Berends, Serena Hunter, Justin Bill, Hannah Bill, Kendall Riherd and Wyatt Junker; Chapter Program – team of Missy Aswegan, Elena Mulder and Haley Homeister; Job Interview, Adi Williamson; and Public Speaking, Hannah Buttjer. All advance to districts.

Abby Berends received a second-place Gold Rating in Ag Broadcasting, also advancing to districts.

Trey Morris is an alternate for the district competition after receiving a silver rating in third place in Ag Sales.

Andrew Holven and Dalton Schell received a bronze rating in Welding.

The district contest is scheduled for March 6 in Sheffield, where A-P FFA competes against 46 other schools at West Fork High School, hosting a hybrid competition. The top two teams or individuals from each event will move on to compete from advancing teams or individuals from five other districts in Iowa as part of the state competition in April.
