Dike-New Hartford opens track and field season at UNI-Dome

CEDAR FALLS – Dike-New Hartford girls and boys track and field competed at the AD Dickinson Relays at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Monday and Tuesday afternoon last week.

D-NH’s Eden Barrett finished fourth in the 60-meter dash finals with an 8.07 time, two-hundredths of a second better than her prelim time that was good for sixth place.

D-NH’s Shelby Ohrt placed eighth out of 79 runners in the 200-meter dash in 28.34.

D-NH senior Alexis Jensen was eighth out of 78 runners in the 400, running 1:04.50.

The Wolverines’ 4x200 relay team of Barrett, Jadyn Bennett, Jensen and Claire McCumber posted a 1:50.71 final time for fifth in the event, finishing behind Ames, Waukee, Davenport Assumption and Dubuque Wahlert.

During the boys meet, Brewer Eiklenborg had the best finish of the individual runners with a 23rd-place showing in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, running 9.39 against 49 other runners. Rhett Wardell was 30th in 9.75.

Micah Walston added a 31st place finish in the 400 in 56.41, competing against 78 other runners in the event. Parker Latwesen was 47th in 58.51.

In the long jump, Nathan Moore and Jerek Hall had a best leap of 20 feet, 2.5 inches and 20-2 to finish 13th and 14th, respectively. Cale Jensen was 21st in the shot put with a best throw of 43 feet, 5 inches, competing against 78 other throwers.

The 4x400 relay team had the best finish of the relay events, running 15th in 3:47.87.
