Judy Abbas
Judy Elaine Abbas, age 73, of Ackley, Iowa, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Arend B. and Eunice (Meyer) Abbas on February 24, 1948, at her home near Aplington. Judy attended school at German Township #1, Aplington Community School, Austinville Community School and graduated from Aplington Community School in Aplington, Iowa.
Judy was baptized and made Profession of Faith in Austinville Christian Reformed Church in May 1980.
Over the years, Judy was employed at State Savings Bank in Aplington; John Deere Community Credit Union in Waterloo; Northeast Iowa National Bank in Sumner/Fredericksburg; served in financial positions in Scottsdale, Arizona; Little Rock, Arkansas; Portage, Wisconsin; Madison, Wisconsin and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She retired in 2011 and returned to reside in Aplington in May 2012.
Judy enjoyed volunteering as a cook for a homeless shelter in Waukesha, Wisconsin, for many years. She was a strong supporter of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
Judy enjoyed watching Iowa sports teams, reading, doing puzzles and cross-stitching. She enjoyed leading Bible Study groups and attended Prime Timers, a church group of people age 60+ that gathered to enjoy speakers, potlucks and other social activities.
Judy died Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Grand JiVanté in Ackley. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Koop.
Judy is survived by four brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Abbas, Danny (Kim) Abbas, Ricky (Melanie) Abbas and Ryan (Bobbi) Abbas all of Aplington; four sisters, Donna Koop of Aplington, Terri (Jake) Koop of Aplington, Ronda (Todd) Hardy of Shell Rock and Connie (Rod) Sents of Aplington; 21 nieces and nephews; 31 great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Christian Reformed Church in Austinville, Iowa. Pastor Norm Underland officiated the service. Organist was Stef Abkes and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “In Christ Alone”. Maggi Abbas and Jacob Abbas provided special music as they sang “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone”. Burial was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Austinville with Brian Burkle, Jason Koop, Cory Koop, James Kennedy, Alexander Abbas, Travis Abbas, Brandon Abbas, Jacob Abbas and Michael Koop serving as Casketbearers. Honorary Casketbearers were Andrew Kennedy, Troy Eiffert, Christopher Koop, Cody Cummings, Derek Wiers, Matthew Moore, Shawn Abbas and Chad Abbas
Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Christian Reformed Church in Austinville, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
