Etjen, Waller on all-district team

Aplington-Parkersburg’s Ellen Waller and Ellie Etjen were among the selections to the 12-member Class 2A Northeast all-district team, as released by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association last week.

The A-P duo joins Dike-New Hartford’s Payton Petersen, Ellary Knock and Sophia Hoffmann on the team. D-NH head coach Bruce Dall also earned the Northeast Coach of the Year honor.

Etjen, a senior, averaged 12.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game for the Falcons this season. Waller, a junior, put in 13.2 points, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. A-P (17-7) reached the regional final in Class 2A Region 4 before falling to second-ranked Denver.

Petersen, a sophomore, is averaging 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game for the Wolverines as D-NH prepares to defend their Class 2A state title in Des Moines this week. Knock, a junior, averages 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game; Hoffmann dishes out 6.7 assists per game with 5.8 points and 3.1 steals per contest as well.
