Textor’s game-winner keeps D-NH undefeated

The Dike-New Hartford baseball team made up a late deficit and Lewis Textor smacked a game-winning hit with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 Wolverine victory over Sumner-Fredericksburg/Tripoli in Dike on Friday, June 17.

The win kept the Wolverines, ranked sixth in Class 2A, undefeated at 16-0.

After falling behind 4-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth, Gus Varney tied the game with a single swing, hitting a two-run home run with no outs.

In the seventh, Colin Meester reached after being hit by a pitch; Wil Textor followed with a single and Varney was intentionally walked to load the bases. That set the stage for Lewis Textor, and the freshman slapped the game-winner on a 1-0 count.

Varney finished with three RBI. Textor was 2-for-4 including the game-winner and Micah Walston added a solo home run.

Textor also earned the pitching victory with two innings of relief, allowing no earned runs on one hit, walking none and striking out two.

Earlier in the week, D-NH swept Aplington-Parkersburg by 5-2 and 7-0 margins on June 13 and defeated Clear Lake 13-3 on June 14.
