A-P's Hovenga in top-10 in Eldora

ELDORA – Lia Hovenga was eighth overall to pace Aplington-Parkersburg girls cross country to a seventh-place team finish at Pine Lake Golf Course in Eldora on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Hovenga completed the course in 22:30, a split second ahead of Keira Andersen of Gilbert. Gilbert won the team title with 38 points; Hudson claimed the runner-up spot with 93 points. Dike-New Hartford was fifth with 158 points and A-P scored 205 points in seventh.

Other A-P team scorers included Ashley Schipper in 21st in 23:35, Ella Luebbers in 50th in 26:29, Shayla Barrett in 59th in 27:25 and Adison Williamson placing 67th in 28:04.

D-NH was led by Izzy Houts, who finished 17th in 23:16.

In the boys race, A-P and D-NH finished 10th and 11th with 289 and 312 points, respectively.

Jesse Washington was the lead runner for the Falcons, running 20:03 for 27th place. Henry Reints was 53rd in 21:21, Kamdon Hoppenworth 64th in 22:08, Evan Sheesley took 65th in 22:11 and Isaac Foxen was in 80th in 23:08.

Tyler Nystel led the Wolverine pack in 45th in 20:50. Gilbert also won the boys team title with 32 points. Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck was second with 71 points.
