Library event focuses on Orphan Train Movement

​Friends of the Aplington, New Hartford and Parkersburg Libraries joined forces to bring a program to the community on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Vets Building in Parkersburg.

​Lori Vicker presented a program to over 50 people on the Orphan Train Movement that took place in the US from 1854-1929.  Iowa received the fourth highest number of orphans from this movement.  Lori had a slide presentation with some handouts to share with group.  

​It was an enjoyable evening and brought out people of all ages to learn more about the Orphan Train Movement and how it impacted Iowa.

​All three libraries have a number or books/resources if you would like to learn more about the Orphan Train Movement.  It was nice to see people from all three towns come together for a library program.
