Carol Jean Smeins, 75

Carol Jean Smeins, age 75, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of George and Henrietta (Brower) Smeins on June 2, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa.  She received her education in the Parkersburg Schools and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1966. Carol was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many prom dresses, wedding attire and did alterations.  Carol was employed by Eleanor Peters at The Stitchery, a fabric shop in Parkersburg for many years.

Carol enjoyed sewing, reading, and loved working in her flower garden. Carol and her mother survived the May 2008 tornado that destroyed their home while they were still inside. After the tornado she was very active in helping to rebuild their home, with much help from family and friends. This new home had a basement! 

Carol passed away at Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa, on Monday, July 3, 2023, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents, George (1980) and Henrietta (2012) Smeins; and a sister, Melanie Ann Smeins (1962) in infancy.

Carol is survived by her aunt, Anna Mae Brower of Hiawatha, Iowa; her family’s heart child, Kristy Bonner of Scott, Louisiana; and many cousins.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.  Rev. Jamie Thompson officiated the service.  Special music, “Amazing Grace” was played.  

            Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, or the family.  Redman Funeral & Cremation Services, Parkersburg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.redmanfuneral.com
