Morris John Uhlenhopp, 88
Morris John Uhlenhopp, age 88, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John R. and Matilda (Etjen) Uhlenhopp on August 31, 1935. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1954. Morris served in the Iowa National Guard from 1954 to 1960.
On October 11, 1958, Morris was united in marriage with Theone DeVries at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. After their marriage, the couple lived and farmed outside Kesley, Iowa, for a short time. They then moved to an acreage north of Parkersburg. Morris and Theone later moved to Parkersburg. Morris was employed as a machinist at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, Iowa and retired in 1991.
Morris was a member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, where he served as an usher and trustee. He enjoyed racing harness horses and riding his Harley motorcycle. Morris was very dedicated to his family.
On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Morris died at Unity Point Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, John and Matilda Uhlenhopp; and one brother in infancy, Virgil Uhlenhopp.
Morris is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theone, of Parkersburg; two daughters, Candi Lyn (Brent) Schipper of Kesley, and Amy (Wayne) Nolte of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandchildren, Silas (Amber) Schipper and Taylor (Brandon) Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Camdyn Clark and Silas Schipper, Jr..
A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. Pastor B.J. Humphrey officiated the service and Randy Aalderks was the pianist. Randy also provided special music as he sang “Amazing Grace” and “I Can Only Imagine”. The burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, with Taylor Clark, Silas Schipper, Silas Schipper, Jr. and Camdyn Clark serving as Urnbearers.
