Lyle George Uhlenhopp, 87

Lyle George Uhlenhopp, age 87, of Aplington, left this world and entered into the presence of the Lord on August 13, 2024.  Lyle was born in Dumont, Iowa on March 12, 1937, to George and Rena (Lichtsinn) Uhlenhopp.  

Lyle received his education in Dumont, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1955. Lyle graduated from Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa in 1957. 

Lyle married Dotta Stilson on September 25, 1957 at the Evangelical Church in Dumont. After they were married they lived in rural Aplington farming for four years. In 1962, the couple bought Hilltop Feeder Pig and moved into Aplington. Lyle was a feeder pig dealer for 47 years.  He was a member of the Aplington school board for 12 years and a member of the Aplington city council for 3 years.

Lyle enjoyed his family very much and was able to enjoy many Sunday dinners with any family members who were able to attend. He enjoyed many vacations with family over the years. Lyle enjoyed golfing, fishing, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and tending to his yard. He loved his loyal cat, Jerry.

Lyle was in fellowship at the Hitesville Gospel Hall and on August 1, 2021, he was baptized.  His salvation came late in life reading Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”.

Lyle is lovingly remembered by his wife of over 66 years, Dotta Uhlenhopp; his children, LeeAnn (Kelly) Harken, Julie (Mike) Klahsen, Mark (Tara) Uhlenhopp, Lisa (D. Jay) Ellis; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ellen Jane Brandhorst and Shirley Curran.  

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lynn (Sharon) Uhlenhopp; sister, Norma (Tilfred) Rierson; sister-in-law, Donna Stock; brother-in-law, Robert Brandhorst, and brother-in-law Roger Curran.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Aplington.  Pastor Doug Hull and Mr. Russ Nesbit officiated the service.  Pianist was Leneè Pollock, and she accompanied the congregation as they sang “Tis The Promise of God” and “How Great Thou Art”.  Russ Meyer sang “King is Coming” and “He Touched Me”.  The burial was held at Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Aplington, with Luke Klahsen, Jacob Klahsen, Morgan Uhlenhopp, Nick Ellis, Dylan Ellis, Benjamin Ogle and Elijah Ogle serving as Casketbearers.  Honorary Casketbearers were Mark Harken and Andrew Ogle.

Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice or Teens for Christ.  You may leave online condolences at www.redmanfuneral.com
