Roger Dean Meester, 80

Roger Dean Meester, age 80, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Jacob C. and Alma Christina (Kampman) Meester on July 11, 1944, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Roger graduated from Aplington High School in 1962.   In July 1963, Roger entered the United States Army and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in July 1966.  During his time in the service, Roger served in Germany.

Roger married DeAnne Mulder in 1967 and started a family.  They had a son and daughter.  The couple later divorced.

On October 1, 1977,  Roger was united in marriage with Frances Ohling Eilderts in Gifford, Iowa.  After their marriage, the couple lived on the Meester family farm south of Parkersburg, where they resided their entire married life.  Roger loved farming and strived to be a good steward of the land.  He also worked construction with his cousins, Kenny and Kevin.

Roger attended the Reformed Church of Stout where he served as a deacon.  He enjoyed having coffee at The Mill with his friends.  Roger was happy to celebrate his 80th birthday this past summer with his family where he also met his great granddaughter.   

Roger passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Alma Meester; two brothers, Johannes and Calvin Meester; three brothers-in-law, Bart Fisher, Edward Harms and Jon Santee.

Roger is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Fran; a son, Dean J. Meester, of Chico, California; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Meester of Whitehouse, Texas; one grandson, Hayden Holbrook (Arianna Lombardi); a great granddaughter, Elena; three stepsons, David (Diane) Eilderts of Dike, Iowa. Dale (Shelley) Eilderts of Wellsburg, Iowa and Derek (Sarah) Eilderts of Corcoron, Minnesota; seven step grandchildren, Zachary (Molly), Mason, Jill, Jayne, Kaitlyn, Joy and Heidi; two step great granddaughters, Kinlee and Tori; one sister, Lois Fisher of Parkersburg; and three sisters-in-law. Peggy Meester of Glenmont, New York, Anna Harms of Aplington, and JoAnn Santee of Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Reformed Church of Stout, with burial in the Stout Cemetery, both in Stout, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Saturday before services at the Reformed Church of Stout.
