DIKE – Brady Driscol wasn't going to get the Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball team in a shootout with the second-ranked team in Class 2A.
The first-year Falcon head coach knew that his team had to slow the pace of play down and give undefeated Dike-New Hartford fewer opportunities to make plays.
Eventually, the Wolverines got the pace they wanted, putting away a feisty A-P squad, 48-22, in a regional semifinal at D-NH High School on Friday.
For the first time in his 26 years of coaching, Dike-New Hartford head coach Bruce Dall said he didn't set any goals for his team before the first tip-off of the season.
He's glad he didn't.
"We would have exceeded them already," Dall said. "It may have even held us back."
Instead, the Wolverines are flying high, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A by the IGHSAU and entering the final week of the regular season with an 18-0 record, and wrapping up the NICL East title with Denver the only team to stay within 25 points of the Wolverines in division play.
